Never before has the line between mainstream hip hop and true hip hop been so clearly defined. Grouch and Eligh's 3rd collaboration album, Say G&E is nothing less than a masterpiece. You'd be hard pressed not to find at least one song that connects with anyone that has heard any music before. This album isn't oldschool, it's not newschool, it's hiphop 110%. This is the direction hiphop needs to go. Take it back to the essence, but build on that and do something different with it.
2009 is shaping up to be one of the best years for hiphop in recent memory. Artists other than Grouch & Eligh releasing albums this year include The Crest, Illogic, Abstract Rude, CunninLynguists, Mr. SOS, Swollen Members, Weerd Science, and probably more that I can't think of or don't know about yet.
